Hardwood care & maintenance
Your hardwood flooring is more than just flooring. It's an investment as well of a work of art that adds value to your home. So, you'll want to do what you can to keep it looking its best. Preventative maintenance and regular hardwood care can keep your surfaces beautiful for decades!
Daily care & maintenance
When it comes to preventative hardwood care, there are a few things you should do right away. First, invest in floor protectors for use with furniture. This will prevent denting and scratching. Next, buy some entry mats so mud and stones stay off of your flooring. You'll also need to make it a habit to trim pets' nails so that they do not scratch your flooring. It's also a good idea to use a humidifier and a dehumidifier as needed, as hardwood is sensitive to your home's climate. Finally, you should consider using an area rug for extra protection where needed.
Everyday hardwood care and maintenance should include sweeping, vacuuming, and dry mopping. Make sure to check with your manufacturer’s hardwood care and maintenance guide, in addition to their list of approved vacuum cleaners, before caring for your flooring. If your flooring needs more than just a dry surface clean, use a manufacturer-approved cleaning solution and follow their guidelines.
Dealing with spills and stains
With hardwood, common messes such as milk, pet accidents, and many other liquid spills will simply wipe away clean, especially with hardwood floors that are designed with stain- and scuff-resistant technology. Tend to liquids immediately, as hardwood is not water-resistant. For other messes such as nail polish, oil, or wax, it's important to consult with your manufacturer regarding the best hardwood cleaning products and procedures.
